About Reese

Hi, I’m Reese. Let me show you the China you won’t find on Google Maps.

Ni Hao! I’m Reese.

I am currently based in Shenzhen, China’s most modern tech hub, but my roots go back to the mountains of Jiangxi Province.

Living between these two worlds—the futuristic city and the ancient countryside—has given me a unique perspective on my home country.

Why I started this blog

Every day, I see international travelers flocking to the same crowded spots: The Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors, and the Bund. Don’t get me wrong, they are magnificent. But seeing visitors leave without ever touching the soul of China always made me feel a sense of pity.

I realized that many hidden gems—stunning ancient villages, silent mountain trails, and vibrant local markets—remain unknown to the world simply because of a language barrier or a lack of information.

I created Reese Explores China to change that.

My Travel Philosophy

I am not a fan of “check-in” tourism. For me, travel is about:

  • Hiking into the unknown wildness.
  • Immersing in nature to feel the visual impact of the landscape.
  • Tasting the authentic, spicy, and sweet flavors of local street food.
  • Listening to the stories and culture behind every brick and tile.

To me, every niche destination I explore is like discovering a precious gem. I want to polish these gems and present them to you.

What you will find here

This website is more than just a travel diary; it is a complete survival guide for international friends.

China can be tricky for first-timers (apps, payments, trains!). My goal is to help you solve these puzzles so you can focus on enjoying the beauty.

Whether you are here for a survival guide or looking for your next off-the-beaten-path adventure, you are in the right place.

Let’s explore the unknown together.
